In celebration of the King of Pop’s birthday, Revolt TV aired an interview with super producer Timbaland who revealed he’ll be working on a new Michael Jackson album. Timbo says that Epic Records CEO LA Reid asked him to produce the album that would contain unreleased MJ material over new Timbaland beats.
According to theguardian.com:
“Timbaland has hinted that he is currently working on music by Michael Jackson, with a first single release to be called “Chicago.” In a heavily edited 39-second video clip, the producer revealed that LA Reid had visited him to discuss the project, which he described as ‘two kings working together. When it eventually emerges, the result will be “my music with his voice on it,” Timbaland said.”
This is ironic because in a recent interview Timbaland was critical of rappers Chris Brown and Drake for working on posthumous Aliyah albums.
Timbaland said those songs “wouldn’t work,” inferring that because the artists had never worked with the R&B diva as he had, their songs were unsuccessful. So does Timbaland think the same rules will apply to him? Apparently not.
To be fair, Timbaland is one of the best R&B and pop producers in music history. Actually, had Michael Jackson worked with Timbaland instead of Trackmasters for the majority of his 2001 Invincible album, it would have been a way more relevant record. So even though the Timbaland and Michael never worked together, this album may be something to listen out for.
Timbaland says he will have the Michael Jackson production complete this year.
Check out the interview above and tell us what you think. Can Timbaland pull off a Michael Jackson album with unreleased content?
