Robert Griffin III Says He’s Fully Recovered

Robert Griffin III says his knee feels great and he’s ready to play in the Washington Redskins’ season opener. In a recent interview with ESPN980 radio in Washington, Griffin said that for the first time, his surgically repaired knee feels like it’s 100 percent healed.

“I would say I’m 100 percent, but you can’t put a number on it,” he told 980’s Kevin Sheehan. “No one ever knows when they are 100 percent or what percentage they’re playing at. The biggest thing is, I’m not below 100 percent.”

The Redskins quarterback also said he is up to the same speed as he was prior to tearing the ACL in his right knee last season.

“If I had to run a 40 today at the combine in my underwear, I feel like I could run a 4.3-something,” said Griffin, speaking in advance of a documentary airing on ESPN at 7 p.m. ET Tuesday detailing his rehabilitation.

Griffin added that he had a revelation during the team’s last preseason game.

“I just think I’m ready to go, I’m ready to play,” Griffin said. “I’m better than that right now. In my mind it’s been clicked for a long time, but for my body it clicked during the pregame in the last game when I went out there in full pads and I was running around and throwing and doing stuff.”

Dr. James Andrews will let the Redskins organization know if Griffin is cleared to play the season opener this week. More details to come.
