Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee, who has been under heavy criticism in the wake of the Trayvon Martin shooting, met with the city manager this morning to discuss his termination, Lee’s spokeswoman Sara Brady said.
Details of his departure haven’t been completed, she said.
WOFL-Channel 35 reported tonight that Lee was fired outright and that an official announcement was expected Thursday.
Lee stepped aside temporarily after the shooting and has been on paid administrative leave. On April 23, the Sanford City Commission rejected his resignation, just a month after it voted “no confidence” in him.
