Tony Award winner Phylicia Rashad will star in True Colors Theatre Company’s production of Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner. Kenny Leon will direct the production, which will play Georgia State’s Rialto Center, July 10-29.
In Todd Kreidler’s play — based on the screenplay of the same name by William Rose — Joey Drayton brings her fiancé, Dr. John Prentice, home to San Francisco to meet her affluent parents.Their liberal persuasions are put to the test when they find out their daughter’s fiancé, while an ideal choice — a handsome, wealthy, brilliant, internationally-renowned doctor from a respectable family — is also African-American.
The cast will also include Tory Kittles, Tom Key, Tess Malis Kincaid, Andrea Frye, Bethany Anne Lind, David De Vries, Elizabeth Wells Berkes, and Afemo Omilami
Rashad won a Tony Award for her performance in A Raisin in the Sun, and also received a Tony nomination for her performance in Gem of the Ocean. Other Broadway credits include August: Osage County, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Cymbeline, Into the Woods, and Jelly’s Last Jam. She is perhaps best known for playing Claire Huxtable on The Cosby Show.
