Last night Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted one of the most watched Golden Globes awards shows in history. The Golden Globes are known for being more of a party for Hollywood’s elite rather than a prestigious awards show, largely because of the open bar and the questionable nature of the Hollywood Foreign Press (Who are they anyway?). The show was rife with antics from the hosts and presenters, such as Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig’s laugh our loud funny introduction for Best Actress and Glenn Close’s full body drunk dance. Jodie Foster also delivered a stirring speech when she accepted the Cecile B. DeMille lifetime achievement award. The guests all seemed to be having a fabulous time and thoroughly enjoyed themselves the entire night, probably because Ricky Gervais and his crass personal attacks were nowhere to be found.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were without a doubt amazing hostesses, my only complaint being they weren’t on stage nearly enough.They delivered some zingers, such as equating Katheryn Bigelow’s marriage to James Cameron to torture methods used in her film Zero Dark Thirty, but overall the humor tasteful and classy. I think it proves the comidennes’ true comedic genius when they didn’t have to resort to abrasively deriding their fellow actors and actresses to get a laugh. Something to keep it mind come Oscar night, Seth MacFarlane.
