Tron: Legacy brought in close to $400 million with its first installment, its fitting that Disney would want to produce a sequel to the sci-fi thriller. According to moviesblog.mtv.com, Garret Hedlund has confirmed his return for the character Sam Flynn, Hedlund told Next Movie: “Yeah. Are we gonna break this now? Disney’s very excited. That’s about that. You know, yeah, I’m very excited, Disney’s very excited.” The director John Kosinski is still on board for the sequel and has brought on Jesse Wigutow writer of “Eragon” to take part in the film.
Kosinski told Collider.com
Well the only reason to go back, for me and I think for anyone involved would be if we could do something truly spectacular. We’ve been talking about it for a couple years and there’s always been this idea, a big idea, in the back of my head that we’ve been talking about. The idea itself, the notion of what the next Tron could be, is exciting enough that it would be worth going back to do it. Obviously we hinted some things at the end of Legacy, it’s kind of there for people to see what that potential is. So we just want to make sure that we have a script that delivers on that promise on an epic scale.
It is unknown if Olivia Wilde, who played Quorra or Jeff Bridges ,who played Kevin Flynn will be returning for their previous roles as well. Sources say Tron 3 will begin shooting in 2014, but a plot right now is still under wraps.
