As we told you earlier this month, Boy Meets World is getting a sequel aptly named, Girl Meets World. The new series will be from the perspective of Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence’s 13-year old daughter, Riley. The new show would have no chance of surviving without the help of some original cast members and boy did Disney luck out. Perez Hilton tells us that BOTH Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel have agreed to return as golden couple, Cory and Topanga.
Danielle Fishel took to her Tumblr to tell fans how excited she is to reprise her role. In a post to her fans, she wrote “We felt touched by the excitement in your comments, tweets, Tumblr, and Facebook posts. But most of all, we felt inspired. We felt inspired to bring these characters back to life and to tell you more of their stories.” She even addressed those followers who feared the sequel couldn’t do justice for the original. She said, “I know why you don’t want GMW (Girl Meets World) to happen and I appreciate that BMW (Boy Meets World) meant enough to you that you don’t want to see its legacy tarnished. I can assure you, we don’t want that either.” Well, phew – I’m glad she acknowledged the potential downside of the sequel, hopefully she and Savage can keep GMW from flopping.
Most recently, Danielle Fishel can be seen a the host of MSN’s Last Night on TV. Fishel also hosted The Soup style show, The Dish, which ran on the Style Network from 2008-2011. She also appeared in National Lampoon’s Dorm Daze. Fishel was also a spokesperson for NutriSystem and touted her success on the The Tyra Banks Show.
Ben Savage took a break from acting, but has since been seen on a handful of television shows, most recently on Bones in 2011.
Do you think the original Cory and Topanga will make or break Disney Channel’s new show?
