Andy Samberg Is Back On TV

Well that didn’t take long. Just months after leaving SNL, Deadline.com tells us that Andy Samberg has landed a role in the new Mike Schur / Dan Goor police comedy. With their success on casting Amy Poehler in Parks and Recreation, the shows creators have history of turning an SNL veteran into a sitcom sensation.

The duo previously worked with Samberg in a 2010 episode of Parks and Recreation and were eager to cast him in this role as head detective. As soon as they decided Samberg was their top choice, Schur and Goor began writing the part specifically for the actor. Luckily for them, Samberg loved the pitch. Fox was lucky enough to win the bidding war for this new script, my guess is the show will definitely go on to air.

Samberg has a solid fan base (myself included) and his name alone will draw in a large chunk of viewers. The success of his female SNL costars, Tina Fey (30 Rock), Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), and even Maya Rudolph (Up All Night) paved the way for Samberg to successfully transition from sketch comedy to scripted. Hopefully the actor will still have time to make movies and somewhat explicit Lonely Island shorts, like this one.

Will Samberg’s Lonely Island co-stars make an appearance his Samberg’s new show?
