A recent article by The Collider has declared that Saving Mr. Banks, a new drama starring Tom Hanks, has began its initial phase of production.
Saving Mr. Banks will revolve around Walt Disney‘s twenty-year pursuit of the film rights to the novel Mary Poppins by PL Travers. Rumor has it that Travers was more than reluctant to sell the rights as it was immensely personal. It reflected her personal relationships and even the relationship with her father.
A truly all-star cast has been assembled for Saving Mr. Banks. Tom Hanks will be taking on the role of Walt Disney, who has never been protrayed in film before, while Emma Thompson is set to play Travers. Colin Farrell, Paul Giamatti and Jason Schwartzmen are also listed in supporting roles. John Lee Hancock, mostly known for The Blind Side, is slated to direct.
The overall story being Saving Mr. Banks is more than intriguing. For audiences worldwide, the movie Mary Poppins has been nothing more than a fond childhood memory forever associated with Dick Van Dyke and “A Spoon Full of Sugar.” The insight and personal details behind the story should be enough to draw crowds into theatres.
Filming for Saving Mr. Banks plans on wrapping up around Thanksgiving and releasing sometime in 2013. As always, check back for more news on this release and many others.
