Neil Jordan has released a clip from his latest supernatural effort Byzantium, revealing an allure that is both shocking and promising.
This will be yet another take on the vampire story, which Neil Jordan already covered masterfully in Interview With the Vampire. The official synopsis describes the plot as “Two mysterious women seek refuge in a run-down coastal resort. Clara meets lonely Noel, who provides shelter in his deserted guesthouse, Byzantium. Schoolgirl Eleanor befriends Frank and tells him their lethal secret. They were born 200 years ago and survive on human blood. As knowledge of their secret spreads, their past catches up on them with deathly consequence.”
Clara will be played by Gemma Arteton, who starred in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Clash of the Titans. These films highlighted Arteton’s femme fatale potential, and it’s easy to see why she was chosen by Jordan.
Another impressive selection – as highlighted by the clip – is Saoirse Ronan, who plays Eleanor. Ronan has been making significant steps in her acting career since her inclusion in Atonement, which earned her a deserved Oscar nomination. Her work in Hannah and The Lovely Bones is by no means anything to scoff at either.
This clip from Byzantium, courtesy of Empire, shows great promise and we’ll be looking forward to its release nationwide later this year. Enjoy!
