'The Avengers' Heading Back To Theaters For Labor Day Weekend

The Blu-ray/DVD release of The Avengers is less than a month away, but Marvel thinks their superhero ensemble is so great people will want to watch it on the big screen one more time before it’s packaged for home viewing. And why not, the film’s worldwide gross is nearly $1.5 billion, making it the third largest grossing film ever.

The film will be expanding into about 1700 theaters on Labor Day Weekend, giving it more time to stack more big screen revenue on top of that $1.5 billion. It seems Disney/Marvel is keen on milking as much of the success of The Avengers as possible.  The announcement was made on the movie’s Facebook page

Marvel/Disney has been releasing deleted scenes and even an alternate opening leading up to the Blu-ray/DVD release. There is no word on whether those clips or any others will be included in the film when The Avengers return to the theater. It would be nice for the studio, though, if this was an extended version because people would probably line up around the corner to see the new footage.

Anyhow, while you wait for Labor Day to come, check out the alternate opening here, if you haven’t already.

The Avengers will be available on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download on September 25th.
