Samuel L. Jackson is the latest actor to join Jose Padilha’s Robocop. According to sources, he’ll play Pay Novak, a powerful TV mogul and player in the Robocop world.
Jackson joins cast members Gary Oldman, who plays the scientist/creator of Robocop and Joel Kinnaman, who will play Alex Murphy, a cop that is brought back from death and turned into a cyborg cop.
Murphy returns to duty in a crime-ridden city and battles with haunting memories while he attempts to rid the streets of criminal activity.
This will be the reboot of the 1987 Paul Verhoeven version of the movie. Padilha will direct, and Marc Abraham and Eric Newman are producing and are planning to begin shooting this September in Toronto. Robocop is slated for a Summer 2013 release date.
Jackson is currently starring in Marvel’s The Avengers as Nick Fury. He will also be teaming up with Quentin Tarantino for his slave retribution film Django Unchained, which is set to be released this Christmas.
