Nicolas Cage has paid $6.25 million to the IRS in an attempt to pay off the huge back taxes tab he owes Uncle Sam. According to the documents, the multi-million dollar payment covers his taxes owed on his 2007 earnings.
In all, the actor has to pay around $13 million in federal income-based payments. His latest submission of funds has cleared him of about half of the debts.
“Over the course of my career I have paid at least $70 million in taxes,” says Cage. “However, I am under new business management and am happy to say that I am current for 2009. All taxes will be paid including any to-be-determined state taxes.”
In December 2011, the Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance star paid off a much smaller portion of the debt, $360,545, in back taxes from 2002 to 2004.
Cage blamed his former business manager for causing him to fall into what he described as a ‘financial ruin’. However, Sam Levin insists that the actor’s own spending habits are what caused his downfall.
