BET plans to give itself a complete content make-over. Fortunately for the cable network, Husband and Wife duo, Salim and Mara Brock Akil, are there to help them do it.
The network has given the green light for a hour long dramady titled Single Black Female. The show was created by the Akils, the couple who was behind the hit comedy series, The Game.
Mara wrote the project, which highlights the work and family life of a Black woman who is the host of a popular Atlanta-based talk show, that is in a simular vein to The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Salim teamed up with BET in May, to create the series and plan several pilot commitments. The show will be produced by the Akil’s own production company Mara Brock Akil.
Aside from penning Single Black Female, Mara recently wrote the reboot of Sparkle, which stars the late great Whitney Houston and is set to hit theaters in August of this year. Salim directed Sparkle as well as the hit comedy film Jumping the Broom.
