Benicio Del Toro will not be playing the character Khan in J.J. Abrams Star Trek despite the enormous amount of speculation that suggested he likely would.
According to New York Magazine’s Vulture blog, talks with Del Toro had reportedly broke down almost a week ago, interestingly, a couple of days before Abrams himself denied reports that the actor would be casted as Khan. The blog reported that the two sides couldn’t come to an agreement on Del Toro’s compensation, however; the news implies that Khan is in fact going to be a character in the sequel.
Now, with filming set to begin next month, Abrams is reportedly setting up Skype auditions to find Del Toro’s replacement. Variety reports that actor Edgar Ramirez is being strongly considered. Ramirez is best known for his role in the the epic-length crime saga Carlos.
Do you think he will be a good replacement?
