Kristi Noem’s Nasty Swipe at Kacey Musgraves Blows Up, as Singer Hits Below the Belt — Then Her Messy Personal Life Gets Dragged Into the Fire

Social media users are railing against Kristi Noem over a sloppy jab at one of country music’s sweethearts.

A viral tweet has thousands of X users and the chart-topping singer clapping back. Noem’s misstep was an attempt to divide fans between superstars Kacey Musgraves and Ella Langley.

Instead, it took a messy turn, and now one woman’s personal life has been dragged into the fire.

Donald Trump and his supporters have been piling on Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico ahead of Election Day, Nov. 3.

Talarico, whom Trump calls “Talafreako,” attended Musgraves’ concert at the Austin City Limits music festival on Oct. 9.

The prominent public figures snapped photos together, including two that the politician tweeted.

“Thank you for having me last night, @KaceyMusgraves!” Talarico wrote on X.

The post featured images of the singer and Talarico taking a selfie and another of her appearing to speak to him during her set.

The innocuous moment was enough to grate on Noem’s nerves.

Noem joined the digital political melee in a bizarre turn of events that otherwise did not concern her.

“I’ll take @ellalangleymsic over Kacey Musgraves any day. And if I’m choosin’ Texas, I’ll take Ken Paxton over James Talarico,” she tweeted along with a screenshot of the Senate candidate’s post.

She was flooded with brutal backlash—including an epic response from the “Middle of Nowhere” sensation.

“She cooked her” and “Kacey fired you,” echoed the sentiment most shared. Another piled on, writing, “Of course you’d vote for corrupt adulterer Ken Paxton since you’re a corrupt adulterer yourself.”

Paxton has separated from his wife of 40 years and openly associates with Christian influencer Tracy Duhon.

Meanwhile, Noem has faced accusations of having an affair with her former special government employee aide Corey Lewandowski.

She and her husband of 34 years, Byron Noem, share three children and a few grandchildren.

“I don’t think you have a dog in this fight but if you did you would have shot it,” snapped Musgraves.

The searing tweet echoes Noem’s 2024 memoir, “No Going Back.” In it, she admitted fatally shooting her 14-year-old dog in a gravel pit after he displayed aggressive behavior.

A third response read, “Between ella untagging herself from your post and kacey cooking you, it looks like Texas is telling you to f–k off.” Another said, “Ella untagged herself and Kacey buried you.”

Langley did, in fact, untag herself from the post but did not publicly address the controversy.

The administration previously used a Langley soundbite for a TikTok video.

The “Choosin Texas” artist remained silent publicly, leaving some fans to assume her politics are right-leaning.

A fourth individual dredged up Noem’s private life.

“Because you’re famously such a good judge of character,” read one below-the-belt hit. The person took it further, attaching a photo of Bryon wearing a prosthetic replica of a busty woman’s chest.

Noem’s husband drew scrutiny in March after quirky photos surfaced and reports emerged that he was having flirtatious relationships with female models.

The former Department of Homeland Security secretary filed for divorce in September.

Despite her past denials, Noem and Lewandowski continue to meet privately. During her March testimony about leading DHS, she dismissed affair rumors as “tabloid garbage.”

Trump fired Noem days after the blistering Q&A. He later reassigned her as special envoy to the Shield of the Americas.

Democracy needs journalism it can trust.

This election season, the stakes are higher than usual — and so is the pressure on newsrooms to soften their coverage, stay quiet, or just disappear. Independent reporting, the kind that answers to readers instead of advertisers or political pressure, matters more in a moment like this, not less.

For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed independent and reader-funded. We have no corporate owner and no shareholders telling us what to cover or how to cover it. That independence is also our biggest vulnerability: nothing protects it except readers choosing to fund it directly.

Newspaper ad revenue has fallen more than 80% since 2005, and local newsrooms are closing at a rate of roughly two a week nationwide. When outlets go under in a moment like this, it's rarely the independent, reader-funded ones that get to stick around.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
