Donald Trump’s latest outing has fueled an explosive rumor that even the White House could not ignore.
However, the photograph at the center of the commotion has already been examined, dissected, and shared by thousands online.
Still, that did not stop the internet from treating the suspicious snapshot like a full-blown White House scandal.
By the time fact-checkers arrived, social media had already put Trump, Natalie Harp and their supposed golf-course embrace on trial.
The image appears to show the 80-year-old president kissing his 35-year-old executive assistant, Natalie Harp.

She is holding a club as the two appear to kiss near a row of trees. Her face is turned away from the camera, making it impossible to confirm her identity from the picture alone.
The image began circulating across X, Threads, Instagram and YouTube in mid-September. Political commentator Keith Edwards used it as the thumbnail for a YouTube video published on Sept. 14, according to Yahoo News.
Edwards said his team found the picture online. He acknowledged that they did not create it, alter it or independently verify its origin.
Social media users claimed the photograph was taken at Trump’s resort in Doonbeg during his recent trip to Ireland. However, the trees behind the couple reportedly do not match the landscape surrounding the course.
The White House quickly stepped in to shut down the gossip.
“This is clearly a fake photo,” an official told Newsweek, adding, “Of course this is coming from Democrats who have nothing of substance so instead they peddle fake images.”
That denial came with some irony. Trump regularly shares AI-generated content on Truth Social, including flattering pictures of himself and fabricated images mocking his political opponents.
Snopes examined both a clear version of the photograph and a blurrier copy. The sharper version reportedly contained a watermark connected to AI-generated material. The woman also appeared to have six fingers on the hand holding the club.
Digital-forensics expert Hany Farid determined that the sharper image was created from the lower-resolution version. However, the blurry picture was too compressed for investigators to determine its origin conclusively. Snopes stopped short of formally rating the underlying claim, although its findings gave the rumor a serious credibility problem.
Then social media took over.
The image immediately sparked questions about Melania Trump’s absence and Harp’s increasingly prominent place beside the president. Others were far more interested in turning the supposed kiss into comedy.
“So here’s 80 year-old paragon of Christian-values and appointed by God to be the Savior of the United States Donald Trump kissing his 35 year-old assistant, Natalie Harp. Who is decidedly NOT his wife. YOUR MOVE MAGA,” one X user tweeted.
Yahoo readers believed the photograph was real.
“This photo appears to be genuine… Someone had commented that it showed Nathlie with 6 fingers. I counted only 5 fingers on her hand and 5 on Donald Trump’s hand,” one commented. Another said, “AI-generated images tend to add a 6th finger to a person’s hands.”
Daily Beast readers were a little more creative.
“Looks real to me, I’ll stick with that argument since the truth doesn’t matter anymore,” one person wrote. “If this was real, he would be grabbing ‘Nat’ by the feline,” another said. Someone else joked, “I hope he popped a tic tac or two.”
Addressing the circus that seems to be the Trump administration, one simply gasped, “How utterly embarrassing.”
The uproar erupted days after Harp accompanied Trump and several members of his family to Ireland.
Many took issue when they saw Harp appear at the end of a family receiving line outside the Irish president’s official residence. The heat increased when the public found out Melania declined to join the Ireland trip.
The internet was almost set on fire when the world found out that the assistant later sat beside Trump aboard Marine One during the return trip.
Her prominent placement left critics wondering when the executive assistant had become an honorary member of the Trump family.
Harp’s proximity to and alleged obsession with Trump have repeatedly sparked scrutiny.
She recently went viral after cameras caught her carrying a portable printer and a massive duffel bag during one of his golf trips. The aide also reportedly triggered an Oval Office blowup by unexpectedly delivering Elon Musk’s explosive Epstein post while Trump was meeting with Sen. Ted Cruz.
Nothing was more controversial than certain letters that surfaced, in which she wrote to the married president, “You are all that matters to me.”
The kissing photograph may not withstand serious scrutiny. But that really doesn’t matter anymore. Harp’s increasingly visible place inside Trump’s orbit continues to give the online rumor mill plenty to work with.
