President Donald Trump has given the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool another makeover.
His latest addition, however, has people comparing it to something he probably did not intend.
The Washington landmark has been making headlines for months. The costly renovation has produced issues by the week, including a massive algae problem.

The pool’s liner has peeled. People were even arrested and charged with vandalizing the century-old structure. At this point, the Reflecting Pool has produced more plot twists than some reality shows.
On Aug. 21, Trump added another controversial chapter to the saga.
He posted an AI-generated image showing the Reflecting Pool with a giant outline of his face across the water. His glowing profile stretched toward the Lincoln Memorial.
The water was bright blue, unlike the “American Blue” he hired contractors to use. Even worse, someone etched Trump’s face in bright green across the water.
Considering the pool’s history with algae, the internet immediately noticed the unfortunate color choice.

“Give me a break, just do your f—king job,” one person wrote. Another said, “There’s the vandal he was talking about.”
The jokes come as the administration faces new questions about the pool’s troubled renovation.
A National Park Service engineer reportedly warned officials on June 11 that the pool’s liner had begun peeling, just days after workers refilled it. NBC News reported that court documents show the engineer blamed the problem on “overspraying” during installation.
Former Olympian David Hearn was later charged with vandalism. Prosecutors accused him of pulling up part of the lining with his bare hands during a June 19 visit to the site. Hearn pleaded not guilty.
The Reflecting Pool is a perfect metaphor for the Trump administration:

His case has since been dropped. His attorneys are now seeking to permanently prevent prosecutors from bringing it back.
That made Trump’s green digital makeover even easier to roast.
“Trump already ruined the Reflecting Pool. This is just him signing the work,” said one person. Meanwhile, one eagle-eyed observer who zoomed in asked, “Is that the algae?”
Many blasted him online for showing off his wrapped version of the Reflecting Pool as a rebrand, ignoring what had happened there in recent weeks.
‘Give Me a Break’: Trump Gives the Reflecting Pool Another Makeover as Outraged Critics Say He Still Hasn’t Learned His Lesson
“Peak Trump? Posting an AI fantasy of his own face in the Reflecting Pool while the actual pool has been drained and under repair is honestly pretty on-brand,” read one comment.
“Rebranding the actual algae blooms as a conceptual AI generated art piece of his own face is a level of elite social media spin that only he could pull off! Quantum level trolling,” another person joked.
Reality apparently needed a little help.
Then, after a summer of floating pieces, dead ducklings and other problems with the pool, one social media person had an idea connected to this new post.
This is hardly Trump’s first attempt to make the Reflecting Pool look better online than it does in real life.
In April, Trump posted side-by-side images supposedly comparing the pool under Barack Obama with his version. Viewers quickly questioned the pictures.
Some noticed suspicious details, including clouds that appeared identical. Clearly, he used either AI or photoshop to make the graphic.
In June, another altered image showed a dumpster filled with filthy debris. Trump used it to blame Obama for the pool’s condition. He has also shared over the summer AI images depicting himself and allies floating in the Reflecting Pool.
The AI fever has apparently spread beyond Trump’s Truth Social account.
On Aug. 19, the Department of Education posted an AI-generated cartoon promoting the Freedom 250 Grand Prix. The IndyCar race will be run on a course going around the National Mall on Sunday.

The cartoon looked like Mario Kart: Washington Edition. Trump was shown racing through the capital. But viewers barely cared about the race. They were too busy examining the suspicious-looking characters riding behind him.
Someone wrote after seeing the president’s post, “I don’t know about anybody else, but I could care less about this stupid pool. Our countries falling apart, and we’re talking about a pool with his head in it.”
The administration is heading toward a difficult midterm election. It is also dealing with an ongoing war it started with Iran and constant staff turnover. For critics, the bizarre images do little to project presidential gravitas.
Trump wanted his face reflected in history. The internet took one look at the green version and saw algae.
