Swizz Beatz and Timbaland took to social media to announce the next “Verzuz” competition. Typically a platform to see hip-hop and R&B artists duke it out, this time around the battle will be for lovers, not fighters.
According to the announcement on Instagram, Charlotte native Anthony Hamilton will go up against Philly’s own Musiq Soulchild in what is sure to be a sultry night of song one day after Valentine’s Day.
The post dropped the details for fans who will be able to be in the building for this one. It read, “#VERZUZ SEASON 3 let’s go!! 💥😍 Anthony Hamilton vs Musiq Soulchild on 2/15 Valentine’s Day Special ❤️ This one is for the lovers 🥰💕 Live from @AvalonHollywood”
After reading the flyer and seeing that this “Verzuz” is pegged as the “Valentine’s Day Special,” Dathotboi said what everyone was thinking, “Y’all just changing dates…” Traditionally Feb. 14 is reserved for lovers, red hearts, flowers and chocolates. But few people cared, they just want to hear good music.
In fact one person understood exactly what the “Verzuz” team was doing: “Right on to @verzuzonline for having this Anthony Hamilton & Musiq Soulchild battle on SideChick Day yall turnin’ up on 2/15??”
Immediately people lined up behind their favorite singers.
Fans who love down-home earthy crooning drenched in the soul music of yesteryear automatically stood behind the “Charlene” vocalist. Those who favor more melodic heart-touchers birthed out of the neo-soul movemen are riding for Musiq Soulchild.
In the Instagram comments on the “Verzuz” page, Legendary singer and hostess at DJ D Nice’s Club Quarantine Melba Moore wrote, “Team #anthonyhamilton 🔥 @anthonyhamiltonofficial”
Another followed up Ms. Moore a few comments below, with a victory declaration for his guy, commenting, “Musiq already won.”
Former NFL player and now social media comedian Spice Adams, another Club CQ regular and “Verzuz” aficionado, dropped the fire emojis before asking both gentlemen what they were wearing. Adams is known to show up at concerts dressed in outlandish clothes and partying hard with celebrities and fans.
On Twitter, Musiq’s fans went hard advocating for the multi-platinum selling artist.
“I’m sorry but Anthony Hamilton don’t have sh## on Musiq Soulchild”
“I’m sorry but Musiq Soulchild bout to smoke Anthony Hamilton”
Echoing him was another Musiq fan, “Musiq gone smoke him.”
Hamilton’s fans tried to fight back. Some said that the live performance will make the difference.
Others believe that people are “sleeping” on the artist.
“People really sleeping on Anthony Hamilton like that man ain’t still making hits..if you don’t know his music just say that,” tweeted another fan
Despite so many people having the “Just Friends” chart-topper winning, everyone is clear, this is going to be one of the best ones produced by the team.
Anthony Hamilton vs. Musiq Soulchild on “Verzuz” will go down on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 8:30 p.m. ET. Fans will be able to watch it by buying tickets or streaming it online on @Triller, @fitetv, Facebook, YouTube, or the@verzuztv Instagram.
