‘My Dad Didn’t Come’: Kanye West Celebrated as a ‘GOOD Father’ After Explaining Why He Purchased Home Across the Street from His Estranged Wife Kim Kardashian

It’s been around three weeks since news broke that Kanye West purchased a house right across the street from his estranged wife, Kim Kardashian, in Calabasas, California. When the story was released it was explained that West’s reasoning for moving closer to Kardashian was so that way he could be closer to their four children.

In a promo clip of his interview with “Hollywood Unlocked,” West doubled down on why he purchased the $4.5 million property and blasted the media for painting a negative picture of him. “My solace comes from seeing my kids and getting a solid schedule. That’s why I even got the house,” he started in the clip. Speaking about the media, he said, “They flipped it into, you know the media, like there was something wrong with me getting a house next to my kids.”

The “Stronger” rapper later explained that his experience with his father not wanting to move closer to him when his mom moved him from Atlanta to Chicago is what also influenced the decision. “You see when my mom took me from Atlanta to Chicago, my dad didn’t come to the coldest and most dangerous city in the world to be next to me. He said, ‘I’m going to stay down in Atlanta, you know, because of my career.’ ’’

West’s father, Ray West, was a Black Panther in the ’60s and ’70s and later on, he became one of the first Black photojournalists for what today is The Atlanta Jounal-Constitution. West stressed that he would not be following in his father’s footsteps in allowing his career to keep him from his children.

“There’s nothing with my career, with this rap, with this media, with none of that, that’s gon’ keep me from my children. And that’s what I want everybody to know. Don’t play with me, don’t play with my children. And ain’t no security gonna get in between me and my children, and you ain’t fin’ to gaslight me, you ain’t gon’ run this narrative on me.”

Fans celebrated West, writing, “That’s a GOOD father,” “I know that’s right,” and “Ye Loveeeeee his kids.”

Kardashian and West have been married since May 24, 2014. They have two daughters, North, 8, and Chicago, 3, and two sons, Saint 6, and 2-year-old Psalm. Kardashian filed for divorce from West last year in February and both are currently dating other people.

The full interview will be released on Monday.
