Keyshia Cole is opening up about her adoptive father, Leon Cole, two days after his passing.
The R&B artist posted a photo on Instagram of herself dancing with Leon, and another photo of him, his wife Yvonne, her biological late mother Frankie Lons, and her son Daniel Gibson Jr., smiling big for the camera. In the post, she confirmed what her adoptive mother already revealed on Sunday, that Leon passed away due to complications from COVID-19.
In the rest of her lengthy heartfelt caption, she wrote, “So here we are💔💔He’s the entire reason my last name is COLE, The only father I knew, he did such a great job here on earth!!!!! He made sure (Even tho he wasn’t my biological father) to keep a stable foundation and roof over all of our heads during our upbringing!!!!”
Cole continued revealing more facts to her fans about her father, who adopted her with his wife when Cole was just two years old. She said he held a job at the California public transit agency called AC Transit for 30 years. Cole, 40, said it was because of his job that she was able to have a bus pass until she was 18 and that she rode plenty of 40L and 50L rides with him.
She also described him as being the “most loving guy” and jokingly explained why it may be his fault that her past relationships have not worked. “Our many long talks of love and how a man needs to treat a woman. Maybe the reason a man hasn’t been able to hold on to me too long, (LOL) (JK) (But serious)He was the greatest example of love, 51 years of marriage to my mother Yvonne Cole.”
“And he’s gonna be missed so much! I hate that this has happened !!! And that I’ve now lost two beautiful souls within a few months from each other.” Cole also lost her mother, Lons, just four months ago after she overdosed on drugs during her birthday celebration. Cole and her mother had a shaky relationship due to Lons’ battle with drug addiction over the years.
Neither Cole nor her adoptive mother have revealed Leon Cole’s age at his time of death. Yvonne Cole said in her latest statement about her husband’s passing that “services are pending.”
