Tami Roman‘s child arrangement with her husband Reginald “Reggie” Youngblood caused a social media frenzy.
The 51-year-old revealed during her recent appearance on “The Real” that she gave Youngblood permission to father a child with another woman.
In the Nov. 17 episode, Roman, who was updating co-hosts Garcelle Beauvais and Adrienne Bailon on her surrogacy plans with Youngblood, disclosed why the idea was put on hold. She said, “It’s on pause. … I feel like I’m at a point where my career is starting to do and reward me for all of my efforts in the time that I’ve been in the business, and a baby for me right now would just not be the thing to do.”
Despite the surrogacy admission, Roman mentioned the proposition she suggested to Youngblood. She stated, “So what I offered him was an opportunity for us to take a break for a year or two. Let him go find someone to have a child with and when he has his baby we can get back together.”
Roman further elaborated that if her husband went through with the deal that she would help raise the child and have a co-parenting arrangement with the potential female suitor. She also revealed she wants to do this for Youngblood because she wants his “legacy” to carry on.
“It’s really more about him being able to have his legacy here because he’s an only child and he does not have any children,” Roman said. “So it’s really more for him than it is for me.”
As the video continued, Roman elaborated that she wouldn’t entertain “any other men” because she is still married and clarified her husband would only be allowed to father a child with one woman. She wrapped up her statement by saying Youngblood declined the offer.
“He [Youngblood] said, ‘I don’t want that. I fell in love with you. You’re the woman that I’m going to spend the rest of my life with, and if God put me here and I’m not supposed to have children then that’s what it is.’”
As Roman’s child proposition remarks went viral, fans’ reactions were split. Some understood Roman’s reasoning behind the deal, while others claimed she was setting her marriage up for failure.
“Tami has lost her damn mind!!!! Just push your husband into the arms of another woman.”
“This may not work out in her favor but whatever.”
“No idgaf that’s beyond dumb he’s liable to leave her she might as well not be married.”
“To all of you saying Tami is stupid please be kind. There is clearly something going on with this woman that she is not ready to share with the public so give her some grace. Her suggestion was selfless so please just leave it at that.”
“This saddens me somehow… I respect her maturity, but my heart goes out to her for making that sacrifice for her husbands legacy. These are 2 people that clearly love each other beyond measure. That said, surrogacy seems a perfect option for them.”
“Whew! Takes a lot of trust and bravery to suggest that. But ultimately, we can’t speak for her because if it works for them, it works for them. And I understand her reasoning behind it, cuz ultimately she’s doing it for him. Who are we to chime in?”
In 2020, Roman shared on Keyshia Cole’s Fox Soul talk show that she and Youngblood were considering surrogacy. The couple, who have been married since 2018, have suffered three miscarriages in the past, potentially stemming from Roman’s health problems.
Roman currently has two daughters, Lyric and Jazz Anderson from her ex-husband Kenny Anderson.
