Tiffany Haddish Opens Up About How She Got Common to Record the ‘Silhouette Challenge’ with Her: ‘It Was Quite a Negotiation’

Actress Tiffany Haddish and rapper Common were the big talk on social media last week after the couple did their “Silhouette Challenge.” Now Haddish is revealing just how she got her man to agree to participate in the viral TikTok trend. On Feb. 5, Haddish said in an interview on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” that getting Common to do the challenge was “quite a negotiation.”

She said, “I’m like, ‘Look, I want to shoot this video. I need you to be in it with me.’ And he was like, ‘Nah, that’s really not my style. I’m not really known for that. That’s not really my thing.’ ”

Haddish explained that she had to try a different approach. This time she changed her tone a bit, letting Common know that what she was asking him to do wasn’t really a question. “And I was like, ‘Look! Every time you ask me to do something I do it and I don’t make no money. I’m asking you to do something for me and every time I do ask you to do something, you get paid. Now, what you gonna do today is this video with me or I won’t be doing nothing for you.’ And he was like, ‘Alright, alright, calm down alright. I’ll do it.’ ”

But it turns out, Common seemed to enjoy filming the Silhouette Challenge because what was supposed to be only three takes turned into 18 because the Chicago rapper had different ideas of how he wanted to film it. She said, “I’m like, ‘For somebody who didn’t want to do this, you now want to do another take and another take, come on bro.’ But we had a good time. We were laughing.”

Haddish and Common will be coming up on their one-year anniversary soon, and although they both seem to be very happy in their relationship now, Haddish revealed that she turned Common down when he first approached her. She said it was because she knew “too many people that dated” him. Common has previously been in a relationship with Taraji P. Henson, Serena Williams, Erykah Badu and Angela Rye.
