Singer Lizzo is taking the term self-love to a whole other level. While some people may look in the mirror and repeat phrases to uplift and encourage themselves, the singer does the same but instead does it while looking down at her stomach.
On Tuesday, Feb. 2, the Grammy Award winner uploaded a clip of herself telling her tummy kind remarks. Appearing on camera with nothing but a towel wrapped around her head and dressed in a black sports bra and black underwear, Lizzo began telling her belly how much she loved it.
“I love you so much. I love you soo much,” the 32-year-old said while massaging her tummy. She continued, “Thank you so much for keeping me happy, for keeping me alive. Thank you. I’m going to continue to listen to you. You deserve all the space in the world to breathe, expand and contract and give me life.”
Lizzo concluded her clip by telling her stomach, “I love you” one more time before kissing her hand and giving her tummy a sweet tap. She later turned to face the camera and smiled at viewers while doing a little shoulder jig. “I started talking to my belly this year. Blowing her kisses and showering her with praises,” the musical artist wrote in the caption. “I used to want to cut my stomach off I hated it so much. But it’s literally ME. I am learning to radically love every part of myself. Even if it means talking to myself every morning. This is your sign to love on yourself today!❤️.”
Lizzo’s heartwarming post was viewed over two million times. Celebrity friends and fans were moved by the clip and left their own affirmations for the “Good As Hell” singer.
The star also received a co-sign from soul singer Erykah Badu, who wrote “Power💜” in the comments section. Badu is widely known on social media for sharing health information and encouraging body positivity and self-love online.
Meanwhile, other fans applauded the star for being compassionate and thanked her, including one user who wrote, “Lizzo uve taught me to love myself and that’s better than any song ever soo tysm 🔥🔥🔥.” A third person commented, “Yaass because we have to be comfortable with the skin we’re in every day.” That person added, “I named my stomach Francis. Shhhh might as well get acquainted 😂😂😂.”
Daily talks with your body part didn’t appear to be an odd activity either as several fans admitted to doing the same thing, like one person who said, “I literally just did this earlier…I did a whole photo shoot just of my belly. This work is such a powerful act of radical self love. 💛💛💛. So luv to know we out here loving our belly!! 💛🍯💛.”
