‘Ciara Didn’t Pray for a Man, She Prayed for Herself’: Keke Palmer Gives Relationship Advice to Fans on Twitter

Ciara and Russell Wilson are one of social media’s most favorite couples. However, anyone who’s followed Ciara’s romance history knows that it took the star some years and a few failed relationships to get to where she is today, happily married with three gorgeous children, one of whom she shares with rapper Future.

Fans on social media have often expressed their curiosity about what the “Goodies” songstress did to achieve such romantic bliss. During an interview with RuPaul in 2019, the singer implied that she was not expecting to be a single mother before her breakup with Future — the pair were set to tie the knot before calling it quits. As a result, she said she prayed and cried a lot before meeting Russell.

Now actress Keke Palmer is here to remind everyone of how Ciara achieved what she has. On Wednesday, Oct. 7, the “True Jackson” star took to her Twitter account to remind her fans of how Ciara got to her current relationship status, in case anyone may have forgotten. “I don’t know who needs to hear this, but Ciara didn’t pray for a man, she prayed for herself.” The post gained over 37,000 likes and 9,000 retweets from fans.

However, one user had to refresh Keke’s memory with Ciara’s video clip talking to music journalist Angie Martinez on how things played out. The singer revealed that not only did she pray for herself, but that she prayed for someone who qualities that she was looking for in a partner, including being God-fearing and worldly. “Well Ciara has entered the chat,” the person wrote before adding, “She prayed for BOTH.”

Another person chimed in, saying, “I feel like it’s still a prayer for herself.” They added, “She prayed for the qualities she needed in a partner cause if she was just praying for a man to have a man, she would’ve settled for any man.”

Other fans weighed in on Keke’s relationship advice. Another supporter wrote, “Come with the facts keke so tired of people claiming women pray for men when @ciara has said multiple times she prayed for herself and her self healing.” While a fourth user commented, “They can’t hear you !!! Say it louder for them please” and attached a gif of Azealia Banks screaming into a megaphone placed in front of a microphone.

Ciara and Russell celebrated their fourth anniversary this past July. The songstress shared a heartwarming video on Instagram of herself alongside her NFL husband to mark the occasion.

As for Keke’s love life, she was last romantically linked with rapper Styn.

Democracy needs journalism it can trust.

This election season, the stakes are higher than usual — and so is the pressure on newsrooms to soften their coverage, stay quiet, or just disappear. Independent reporting, the kind that answers to readers instead of advertisers or political pressure, matters more in a moment like this, not less.

For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed independent and reader-funded. We have no corporate owner and no shareholders telling us what to cover or how to cover it. That independence is also our biggest vulnerability: nothing protects it except readers choosing to fund it directly.

Newspaper ad revenue has fallen more than 80% since 2005, and local newsrooms are closing at a rate of roughly two a week nationwide. When outlets go under in a moment like this, it's rarely the independent, reader-funded ones that get to stick around.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
