Singer Monica blessed her timeline with yet another dose of beauty and style. On Tuesday, Sept. 15, the “T.I. And Tiny: Friends and Family Hustle” star hopped on over to her Instagram page and shared a series of photos from a recent photo shoot.
In the snaps, Monica was seen posing effortlessly in a navy-blue off-the-shoulder Dior sweater, and matching biker shorts and Dior printed sneakers. The songstress finished her look with a Dior monogrammed cap and a customized Dior purse, which featured her name on the front.
However, “The Boy is Mine” singer’s post quickly turned into an investigation after the singer revealed she was interested in knowing why she was nicknamed Goonica in the post that garnered over 79,000 likes. “I have absolutely no idea why y’all call me Goonica! Anyone care to explain 😂,” she captioned the gallery of pictures. “Why don’t you all tell me below! Just a little Morning #MoTalk.”
Fans were eager to shed some light on the matter, including “The Breakfast Club” radio personality Charlamagne Tha God who jokingly wrote, “I’m pretty sure it’s because your personal protection equipment during this pandemic consist of hand sanitizer, a mask, and a .380…..not to mention I guarantee sometimes you forget your mask, but never your pistol!!” Another user commented, “Cause you with the sh-ts, you take no sh-t, and you bout your sh-t. Simple. We Stan.” That comment gained over 1,200 likes.
A third person went as far as getting lyrical evidence from the songstress’ hit single “So Gone.” “Uhhh. Maybe cuz you had said ‘Ima rowdy chick sometimes I gotta fight cuz my mouth too slick,’ they wrote, adding, ‘Ohhhh and you followed that by ‘kick down yo door and slap a chick, just to show you Monica ain’t having it’ I mean I’m here for all that.”
Other explanations claimed that Monica got the nickname because of her assumed no-nonsense policy. While people said she got the name because of her chameleon-like characteristics, including one fan who wrote, “Because you classy but still got some hood in you Incase anyone wana try you 😂.”
The Goonica jokes were front and center earlier this month during the long-awaited Verzuz battle between the songstress and Brandy. The pair has had a long-standing rivalry — mostly fan-generated — but kept things classy during the record-breaking event.
