Chadwick Boseman To Be Laid To Rest in South Carolina

Family of Chadwick Boseman have made private arrangements to celebrate the late actor’s life. On Friday August 28, his family announced on Instagram that Boseman had died at age 43 from a four-year battle with colon cancer.

Boseman will be laid to rest in his hometown of Anderson, South Carolina where The Marcus D. Funeral Home will handle the arrangements. His family wishes to have a service that is private and with family members only.

“The family has always been a very humble family through the years,” Marcus D. Funeral Home president Marcus Brown said, according to WYFF. “They’re humble, and not necessarily private private but normal people.”

Brown continued, “It’s an honor to make arrangements with this family. I’ve known them for many years, so it’s an honor but it humbles me as well.”

Boseman’s family is asking that people donate to the Chadwick Boseman Foundation instead of giving flowers.

The Anderson community held an event on Thursday September 3, paying tribute to the legacy and life of their “native hero.” The event took place at the Anderson Civic Center, and guests such as James Brown’s daughter Deanna Brown Thomas attended to speak on how Boseman impacted their lives.

From this event, an Anderson University student decided to start a petition to replace a confederate monument in downtown Anderson with a statue of Boseman.

Additionally, co-stars and friends of “The Black Panther” continue to remember and share their stories of him on social media.

The latest person to pay their respects is actress Lupita Nyongo. In a lengthy statement on Instagram on September 8, Nyongo details what kind of person Boseman was in the short time that she knew him.

She said, “He loved, honored and respected that body, doing more with it than most. In so doing, he took the risk to be alive, fully alive. So, it seems that it was life that gave up on Chadwick long before Chadwick gave up on life…”

The obituary notes that Boseman leaves behind his wife, mother, father and two brothers.

The obituary did not detail when the funeral service will take place.
