It has been five months since the tragic death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant. Now fans will get a chance to relive some of the greatest moments of Bryant’s final title win with the Los Angeles Lakers with an eight-part documentary titled “Mamba Out.”
Sports media platform ClutchPoints, which produces short, mostly NBA-themed sports videos for release on social media platforms and YouTube, first announced on Twitter that it would be honoring the tenth anniversary of Bryant’s fifth and last NBA championship with the Lakers with an eight-part docuseries. In 2010 Bryant and the Lakers defeated the Boston Celtics in 4-3 in a series that went the full seven games, winning Game 7 83-79.
“Mamba Out” will primarily focus on the NBA Finals series against the Celtics and how Bryant made his way back on top of the NBA heap. The doc will also feature interviews from some of the star’s teammates, including Pau Gasol, Metta World Peace, Derek Fisher, and several others from the Lakers’ championship-winning teams.
The series will be available for viewing on ClutchPoints’ Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube channels, with the first two episodes set to be released on Sunday, July 5. Two more episodes will be released the following Sunday, with the finale scheduled for release on July 26.
“Mamba Out” is titled after “Black Mamba,” a nickname Bryant gave himself as a way to cope with issues he was dealing with between 2003-2004 in the wake of the 2003 accusations that he sexually assaulted a 19-year-old woman in Colorado.
During his own documentary on his life, “Muse,” Bryant didn’t directly mention the case, but he alluded to how it affected him and his family. “I went from a person who was at the top of his game, had everything coming, to a year later, having absolutely no idea where life is going or if you are even going to be a part of life as we all know it,” Bryant explained.
Prosecutors eventually dropped the case against Bryant, and he and the woman reached a civil settlement. The details, however, were never made public.
Bryant played a total of 20 seasons in the NBA and won two Olympic gold medals before his retirement in 2016. Bryant’s last television appearance came posthumously during the Michael Jordan documentary “The Last Dance.”
As previously reported, on Sunday, Jan. 26, Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianni, and seven others tragically lost their lives after their helicopter crashed in a remote field in Calabasas, California. The group was on their way to a basketball tournament. Bryant leaves behind his wife Vanessa Bryant and his daughters Natalia, Bianka, and Capri. Bryant was 41.
