‘Wannabe Stormi’: People Come for Masika Kalysha For ‘Copying’ Kylie Jenner

Masika Kalysha appeared to have won the “mother of the year” award after throwing a self-isolation birthday tea party for her 4-year-old daughter Khari Barbie Maxwell, but her title seemingly was revoked on Wednesday, April 1. Kalysha, a former cast member of “Love and Hip-Hop: Hollywood,” led fans to believe that her parenting style was not original after she posted a specific photo of her daughter on social media.

The 34-year-model uploaded a photo to Instagram on April 1 of her baby girl lying in a bathtub filled with bubbles. Her daughter’s sandy brown hair was pinned up in a messy bun and her small face was peeping out from underneath the soap suds.

The reality star from “Growing Up Hip Hop” shared the photo of her bundle of joy to the social media platform just days after Kylie Jenner posted a similar photo to Instagram of her daughter, Stormi Webster, submerged in a tub full of bubbles.

The timing of the posts of the two tots’ bathtub photos had fans convinced that Jenner’s photo inspired Kalysha to give her daughter a bubble bath.

“What in the poor knockoff Stormi is this 😂,” one user asked.

A second fan commented, “Wannabe Stormi.”

“🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣A whole knockoff of Stormi🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥,” a third said.

A fourth fan commented, “Damn Stormi can’t even have her shine before poor knockoffs start copying.”

“Why try to copy the Stormi pic? Very cringy, she’s cute tho,” a fifth wrote.

A sixth user said, “Cute same pic as Kylie and Stormi’s.”

The Khari Barbie Beauty founder gave birth to her daughter in 2016. She shares her princess with rapper Fetty Wap. Kalysha claimed that she and Fetty Wap were in a committed relationship when their daughter was conceived. They broke up shortly before Khari was born.

The “Trap Queen” hitmaker reportedly has seven children with six different women. Kalysha claimed on Twitter that the 28-year-old rapper originally told her he only had two children when they first began dating.

Democracy needs journalism it can trust.

This election season, the stakes are higher than usual — and so is the pressure on newsrooms to soften their coverage, stay quiet, or just disappear. Independent reporting, the kind that answers to readers instead of advertisers or political pressure, matters more in a moment like this, not less.

For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed independent and reader-funded. We have no corporate owner and no shareholders telling us what to cover or how to cover it. That independence is also our biggest vulnerability: nothing protects it except readers choosing to fund it directly.

Newspaper ad revenue has fallen more than 80% since 2005, and local newsrooms are closing at a rate of roughly two a week nationwide. When outlets go under in a moment like this, it's rarely the independent, reader-funded ones that get to stick around.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
