‘The Script Has Already Been Written’: Taye Diggs Says the Film ‘The Best Man’ May Become a Television Series

There’s a chance that the movie “The Best Man” will be turned into a television series. That’s according to Taye Diggs, one of the popular film’s stars, who shared this news during an interview with “The Talk Take 5” recently.

“I do think it will happen,” said Diggs. “We’ve all been in discussions with the director Malcolm Lee. I think it might end up being a TV series, maybe on a streaming platform. But the script has already been written, so we’ll see. I’m just waiting on Malcolm Lee.”

On Twitter, some expressed excitement about seeing “The Best Man” on television, but one person said they only want to see it on the big screen.

The first “The Best Man” film released in 1999, with some of the other stars including Nia Long, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Morris Chestnut and Harold Perrineau. “The Best Man” was also Regina Hall‘s first film.

The movie’s sequel “The Best Man Holiday” released in 2013 with a $30 million opening, according to Deadline.

In 2014 it was reported that a third installment of the film, “The Best Man Wedding,” was coming, but Lee said scheduling and creative differences got in the way.

“There is a desire to make the movie from the studio’s perspective, from my perspective, from the actors’ perspectives; we all would like to make it happen,” Lee told the Los Angeles Daily News in 2016. “It’s a matter of trying to get the right time of year to do it … If it’s going to happen, it will happen before 14 years.”

If “The Best Man” does move to the small screen, it will follow other classic ’90s films that have done the same, such as “Soul Food,” which was released in theaters in 1997 and became a series on Showtime in 2000.

The 1992 film “Boomerang” also landed on television and premiered on BET in 2019.
