A group of masked white supremacists marched in Washington, D.C., with a police escort this past weekend.
Members of Patriot Front donned masks, long-sleeved shirts, gloves and sunglasses for their trek through the nation’s capital. They were heard shouting “reclaim America” and “Life, liberty, victory.” Reuters news service reports there were more than 150 members of the group marching along a route through the National Mall on Saturday.
The group was accompanied by dozens of police officers. A spokesperson for the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police admitted there is no record of a permit for the march, as reported by Reuters. The rep said the “First Amendment demonstration was peaceful with no incidents or arrests.”
The Southern Poverty Law Center classifies Patriot Front as a hate group. It is an offshoot of Vanguard America, the organization responsible for the notorious 2017 “Unite the Right” march in Charlottesville, Virginia. The group believes white people are the only true Americans.
“An African, for example, may have lived, worked, and even been classed as a citizen in America for centuries, yet he is not American. He is, as he likely prefers to be labelled, an African in America,” states the PF manifesto, according to SPLC.
“The same rule applies to others who are not of the founding stock of our people as well as to those who do not share the common unconscious that permeates throughout our greater civilization, and the European diaspora.”
