‘Big Sis Don’t Play’: Fabolous Says Beyoncé Approached Him for Mentioning Solange’s Name in a Song

Fabolous has uttered countless punchlines in his long career, but one in particular caught the attention of Beyoncé.

The Brooklyn rapper was a guest on “The Breakfast Club” on Thursday, Jan. 23, and at the 36:20 mark of the chat, he said Queen Bey approached him over one of his lyrics.

The line was from Fab’s 2010 cut “For the Money,” which features Nicki Minaj.

“We could be the dream team baby, Kobe and LeBron / Only if you gold I never do the bronze / ‘Cause if you could have Beyoncé, would you take Solange?” rapped Fabolous in the song.

“The first person I saw was Bey, and Beyoncé was like, ‘Yo, let me holler at you,'” the rapper told “The Breakfast Club” hosts. “So I went over there and hollered, and she was just telling me that they rock with me, and they didn’t know where that [came from], and I really didn’t even think when I was saying it.”

“I just didn’t really connect to it like that,” continued Fabolous. “Punch line-y style is just to say something to be catchy and metaphoric, but I didn’t see the deeper side of it. And Beyoncé, I ain’t gonna share the exact conversation, but she told me this is people. Saying something like that can personally hurt her. And I said, ‘You know what? I get it.’ I said, ‘Yo, when I see Solange, I’ll apologize to her.'”

A few years later, the “Breathe” rapper ran into Solange and gave that apology.

“I seen her, so I was like, ‘All right, let me beeline to Solange and apologize,'” he recalled. “And Solange, she was stiff. I’m like, ‘Hey! What’s up?’ She was like, ‘What up?'”

“I was like, ‘Yo, I just want you to know I didn’t mean it in any malice,'” Fabolous explained. “But I do take responsibility for saying that and I apologize.”

Many commented on the rapper’s story afterward, and many applauded Beyoncé for standing up for her sister.

“Exactly, Solange big sis don’t play when it come to her 😇🙏🏾💯💯💯, wrote another.”

“I love the story about Beyonce and Solange, so real and intimate. Love that Bey don’t play about her Sis, I’m the same about mine 👌🏾.”
