Tyler Perry Pledges to Send Aid to Devastated Bahamas After Hurricane Dorian

Tyler Perry said he’s eager to pitch in and help the people of the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian left it in complete devastation.

By Wednesday evening authorities in the island nation announced that 20 people had been killed by Dorian, a death toll that was expected to rise as rescue workers become able to gain further access to the northern islands that were devastated by the then-Category 5 storm that lashed the area for nearly a day and a half. The Red Cross stated that over 13,000 homes on Grand Bahama and Abaco islands have either been heavily damaged or destroyed. Over 60,000 people are in need of food.

And during a news conference Wednesday, Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said “We are in the midst of one of the greatest national crises in our country’s history” and “No effort or resources will be held back.”

Perry reportedly has vacation property on the Bahamas’ White Bay Cay Island and considers it a second home. He posted his message about assisting the country Tuesday on Facebook and encouraged Bahamians to stay strong.

“To all the incredible people of the Bahamas who have welcomed me and called me an adoptive son, I want you to know that I am watching closely, and as soon as I can, I will be there to do whatever I can to help you rebuild stronger and better,” wrote Perry.

“You’re not only in my heart and my prayers, you’re in my blood,” he added. “God bless you. Stay Bahamas strong. The sun will shine again.”

“What a wonderful expression of support and love,” someone wrote in the comments. “The people of The Bahamas sends a heartfelt thank you to Mr.Tyler Perry…we love and appreciate you and look forward to receiving your help that is so badly needed!”

“Thank you Tyler Perry for helping my/our country,” another person commented. “Its going to take a village to repair damages and Honor our loved ones/families who have lost their lives. Continued prayers for the Bahamas 🇧🇸🙏🏿💔”

“You are an Amazing human and we well know that it comes from the heart💞The Wonderful people of the Bahamas are in our prayers, minds and hearts. We will be there to see you shine again and support you All the Way,” wrote someone else.
