Lil Mama unexpectedly channeled former “Basketball Wives L.A.” star, Laura Govan, when she wore the same rainbow-colored sequined dress as the ex-reality star to “Black Girls Rock” over the weekend.
The rapper wore New York City-based Cheng-Huai Chuang at the annual event celebrating women across various industries, which was filmed for BET on August 25. Harrison Thomas Crite is responsible for styling Lil Mama’s short dress by pairing a set of sheer black gloves and hoop earrings with it. Lil Mama wore a high wavy ponytail and eyeshadow that recalled the look of the 1980s. She was on hand as a presenter at the show.
“#BlackGirlsRock,” the “Lip Gloss” performer simply captioned a photo of her in the dress.
Fans quickly went wild over the image.
“Lil mama betta grow up to Mami’ in front of our eyes…. Issa yes ma’am 4 me…..😍😍😍😍”
“You looked so awesome last night!! & thanks for taking the time to speak to me! @lilmama 💕❤️💛✨”
“I like ❤️”
“The ponytail really sets it off 😍”
But before Lil Mama wore the Cheng dress, Govan sported the frock on June 22.
“When NEVER Looking Back / Looked NE Better …. 🙌🏽🙏🏽👊🏽 #InRealLife,” Govan wrote in a caption of her photoset donning the dress.
The ex-reality TV star’s look was styled by creative director Daniel Hawkins, and Govan had Los Angeles and Orange County-based makeup artist Melissa Grace to thank for her thick brows, contoured and highlighted face and red lip. Hawkins placed matching red sequined gloves on the reality star and kept the accessories rather simple with big silver-colored hoops. Pointed-toe high heels finished the look.
Govan’s fans responded with compliments over her look.
“Stunning 😍😍”
“That’s cute”
“Life GALORE!!!”
“I love that dress. You look beautiful!!”
But some fans didn’t like either one of the star’s looks.
Of Lil Mama, one fan said, “She needs @keke stylist.”
And when it came to Govan, they also let the negativity fly where they could.
“When you nothing nice to say… 🤐”
“U stay fly but not this”
I love you but those dress is NO 🤦🏼♀️baby girl”
