Tina Knowles-Lawson Has Emotional Reason Behind Her ‘Corny Joke Time’

One could enjoy a good corny joke in the same way someone could like a bad movie that’s so horrible it’s fun to watch.

It’s a theory that Tina Knowles-Lawson’s followers have seemed to grasp, because they’ve taken to a recurring series she’s been running for three years on Instagram called “Corny Joke Time.”

“How do you make antifreeze,” asked the famous mom in one of the clips posted August 2. “You take away her jacket.”

Knowles-Lawson, who, of course, is Beyoncé and Solange‘s mother, explained where the idea for the corny jokes came from, and it all had to do with her late brother.

“I came up because my brother passed a couple years ago, and he used to always have a corny joke, every time you saw him,” she told TooFab last weekend at BeautyCon in Los Angeles.

“They were terrible, but you laughed anyway, he just made you feel good,” she added. “One day, after he passed away, I said I’m gonna do a joke on Instagram, and I thought I’d do it one time, but people’s reaction to it was so great we just kept going with it.”

And if the jokes are thought out ahead of time before they’re uploaded it’s hard to tell, because Knowles-Lawson delivered one of them during her interview right on the spot.

“So this woman was sitting with her husband,” she began. “And they were drinking wine and she said, ‘Oh my God I love you.’ And he said ‘Awww’ is it the wine talking?’ And she said ‘No, actually I was talking to the wine.'”

Knowles-Lawson’s brother Lumis “Skip” Joseph Beyoncé passed away on March 13, 2016, at the age of 66 in Galveston, Texas.

According to his obituary published in the Galveston County Daily News, he was an avid golfer, a faithful member of his church and had a generous, loving personality, plus a genuine heart.
