Salt and Pepa Accuse DJ Spinderella of Smearing Their Name; Spinderella Files For a Restraining Order

Salt-N-Pepa have responded to a recent lawsuit from their former band mate DJ Spinderella, who said the two rappers bilked her out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

According to court documents, Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa Denton said they tried to work with Deidra “Spinderella” Roper in the best way possible over the years and even rehired her when she walked away from the group.

The rappers also said “After decades of friendship, Spinderella has embarked on a smear campaign and sued her friends based on blatantly erroneous assertions. The truth, however, is that Salt and Pepa have always tried to do right by Spinderella.”

Plus, documents state when the veteran DJ walked away from the group, she asked to return in 2013, which Salt and Pepa agreed to — mainly because they wanted to help a friend and there’s a lot of shared history there.

Salt and Pepa then said they offered to pay Spinderella on a per-show basis, which she happily agreed to, so from there everyone moved forward.

But the reunion was short-lived, because things “did not work out,” and Salt and Pepa tried to iron out how the three women would proceed in the future, in terms of how they would refer to the group since they parted ways.

The suit also states the rappers were hopeful they could remain friends with Spinderella, who’s been a member of the group for almost 35 years.

And now things have gotten even messier, because the Dallas Observer reports that Spinderella requested a temporary restraining order against her former band mates, which will be considered by a judge on Friday in a Dallas courtroom.

“Spinderella is seeking injunctive relief due to the immediate and irreparable harm that has been caused to her due to the acts and omissions of the defendants,” said the DJ’s attorney Paul Stafford.

Spinderella has been a part of Salt-N-Pepa since she was 15 after becoming a member in 1987. She replaced the group’s original DJ, Latoya Hanson, who also used the Spinderella stage name.
