According to the YouGov website, the polling began in December 2018, and participants were asked, “Thinking about people alive in the world today, which [man or woman] do you most admire?”
Then out of the people selected, a list of 20 men and women were compiled, and “10 popular local figures were added to the lists for individual countries.”
From there, a final list was given to people in 41 countries, and they were asked “Who do you truly admire?” and people could make more than one selection.
They were also asked “Who do you most admire?” and were only allowed to pick one person, which is how the final results were reached.
