In 2012 Common and Drake were involved in a beef that got plenty of attention, which the Chicago lyricist talked about in a recent interview on REAL 92.3’s “Big Boys’ Neighborhood.”

Talk of the beef began when people heard Common’s song “Sweet” off his album “The Dreamer/The Believer” and thought he was speaking directly to Drake.

“Singing all around me man, la la la / You ain’t motherf—king Frank Sinatra,” Common rapped

Then, according to MTV, during a Las Vegas show in December 2012, the Canadian spitter responded and said, “I might sing, but I ain’t no bitch. If Common got something to say, say it to my face.”

Drake then had more words for the “I Used to Love H.E.R” rapper on Rick Ross’ “Stay Schemin” track, and Common later responded over the same beat.

During his interview, which hit the Internet on June 6, the actor and rapper said that he and Drake eventually saw each other in person and mutually decided to end the beef.

“When we had that beef, that beef was for real for me. It was real for him,” said Common. “We saw each other at the Grammys and it was like a little tension and then it was just like a real honest talk that we had about like his respect for me. I was letting him know I thought he was a really dope and talented artist, and we just squashed it then.”

Common then complimented the “In My Feelings” creator for how he dealt with things in the end.

“It was like, ‘What are we even beefing over at this point? This ain’t where we want our lives to go, so let me just chill out on that,'” he recalled. “So I gotta give him a lot of respect, ‘cause he handled that like a grown man should. He looked me in my eye and told me, ‘Look, I really respect your music.’ “
