Tamar Braxton asked for feedback on a meal she whipped up for her Nigeran boyfriend and her fans certainly did not hold back.
The singer on Monday shared the results of her attempt at Jollof rice, which is a dish typically cooked in Nigeria, Ghana and other African nations. Braxton tried to make hers in Nigerian fashion. Travel, culture and lifestyle website Demand Africa notes standard Jollof rice ingredients include tomatoes, scotch bonnet peppers and onions while additions like veggies vary. It states the Nigerian version is characterized by a smoky flavor.
“So, I’m tryna make Jollof rice, but it’s turning out like fried rice,” Braxton says in the May 20 Instagram video of the meal she made for David Adefeso. “I’m from Baltimore, this what our rice look like. I put all the African seasonings in it but, why I end up with fried rice?”
She explained further in the caption “What can I do better y’all??? It’s good but it don’t look like David’s sister’s 🤦🏽♀️ 🇳🇬”
Once Braxton asked for feedback, the floodgates opened with tons of criticism — or offers to outright have someone else make the dish.
“Sis let’s talk… this ain’t it. But we can definitely talk about it.”
“Deadddddd it really looks like fried rice🤦🏾♀️”
“@tamarbraxton please don’t tell me this is my 🇳🇬 jollof rice 🤣🤣🤣”
“😭🤦🏾♂️ wtf more like vegan rice”
“Sis oh no 🤦🏾♀️ check out @akwaaba_kuizines_llc she’ll hook you up”
However, some fans also offered helpful advice, too.
“Lmao you need to blend some Roma tomatoes, red bell pepper, onions and habanero pepper. Let it simmer and cook, add the rice, 4-5 cups of water and chicken stock @tamarbraxton.”
“The mixed veggies threw it hun 😬🤪 tomatoes n onions only.”
“The rice looks like the issue, it should be parbolied instead of carolina🤷♀️”
Braxton has had much better success doing what she does best: performing. Although she’s been making the rounds with friend Kandi Burruss on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” star’s “Welcome to the Dungeon” tour, Braxton made time before then to have some fun with her man and celebrate her birthday.
It was during one such celebration back in March that Braxton let her vocal prowess show. As the pair took in a show, Braxton got the mic and belted out Karyn White’s “Superwoman.” She sounded so good to Adefeso that he couldn’t help but stand up and sway.
