Martin Lawrence seemed touched when he received some sneakers from LeBron James for his birthday. The new kicks are called the LeBron 16, and they’re inspired by Lawrence’s sitcom “Martin,” which ran from 1992 to 1997.
The shoes come in black-purple-yellow-and-orange, the same colors that appear during the show’s theme song and opening credits. They also have some of the famous sayings Lawrence used on the show, whether he was playing the lead or one of his other characters like Sheneneh.
On Saturday Lawrence posted a video of himself receiving the shoes, and he seemed very thankful.
“What’s up, y’all? Just got a package from LeBron James for my birthday,” said the actor and comedian, who turns 54 on April 16. “The LeBron James Martin shoe, a limited edition, so you got to get yours.”
“Got a lot of my sayings on the back,” he added. “‘Wazzup,’ ‘Oh my goodness;’ ‘GTD’ — Y’all know what that stands for: ‘Got the draws’ — ‘Get to steppin;’ and Sheneneh’s ‘I’m a lady.’ Thank you, LeBron. I appreciate it, brother. This means a lot to me. Much love.”
James’ “Martin” sneakers don’t come out of the clear blue, since the NBA star has often expressed his love for the show. You can also see him watching some of the episodes on Instagram Live every now and again.
“I laugh so hard watching that show,” he once tweeted about “Martin.”
James and Lawrence are also friendly with each other, and the Los Angeles Lakers forward has hung out at Lawrence’s house in the past.
“He wanted to meet me, so they surprised him and brought him to my house,” Martin said last year on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
James is currently sitting out for the remainder of the NBA season to nurse a groin injury, but he debuted his new shoes last week on the bench.
The Lebron 16s will hit stores on April 16 at select Nike retailers.
