Issa Rae’s ‘Insecure’ Co-Stars Jay Ellis and Yvonne Orji Confirm Rumor She’s Engaged: ‘We’re Very Excited for Her’

So it looks like the rumors surrounding Issa Rae being engaged to her longtime boyfriend Louis Diame were true. But Rae didn’t provide confirmation, her “Insecure” co-stars did.

It’s something they relayed on Saturday at the 2019 NAACP Image Awards, and Jay Ellis, who plays Rae’s ex on the show “Lawrence,” said he found out via text.

“We all found out in different ways because we’re all on different text chains,” he told “Entertainment Tonight.” “We talk at different times, so we all found out at different times in different ways.”

Meanwhile, Yvonne Orji, who plays Molly on “Insecure,” said everyone else who knows about the engagement is ecstatic about it.

“We’re very excited for her,” she stated. “The reaction was all the same, like, ‘You out here in these streets getting married, boo?'”

Orji, Ellis and Rae were at the awards ceremony, since “Insecure” received eight nominations, including outstanding comedy series, but their show lost out to “Black-Ish.”

As for the engagement rumors, they picked up steam last week when Rae appeared on the cover of Essence sporting diamonds on her finger.

“Hold up. Is that an engagement ring in the last pic 😂” someone asked on Rae’s Instagram page.

But the chatter first began in February after Rae was seen wearing an engagement ring on Instagram when she was working with CoverGirl.

And as for Diame, he’s reportedly a businessman and, like Rae, is Senegalese. Plus, Marie Claire reports they have been dating for as long as 10 years, prior to Rae becoming famous. That’s despite rumors the “Insecure” star was dating “Queen Sugar‘s” Kofi Siriboe after he posted a photo with her at the 2017 NAACP Image Awards.

“Issa Rae is still bae,” he wrote in the post. Rae then responded by writing: “Boy, stop playing.”

Clearly, the “Awkward Black Girl” typically keeps mum about her love life, and she explained why during a 2018 interview with Marie Claire.

“I get so much feedback about everything. The one thing I don’t need feedback on is who I’m sleeping with,” Rae stated, which is probably why she hasn’t mentioned anything about her engagement.
