Social media is heartbroken after learning R&B singer Monica Brown, 38, officially filed for divorce from her husband, ex-NBA star Shannon Brown, 33.
Last year, rumors circulated about the couple heading towards splitsville, although neither party ever denied or confirmed that to be true. Unfortunately for fans, the rumors apparently have turned out to be accurate.
The “Don’t Take It Personal” singer reportedly filed divorce documents earlier this month in Atlanta, TMZ reported. She apparently was trying to keep her divorce documents sealed but was unsuccessful in doing so. It’s unclear what caused the couple to split or if Monica will seek spousal or child support.

The pair tied the knot in 2010 and welcomed their now-5-year-old daughter, Laiyah Brown, together a few years later. Monica also has two sons, Rocko and Romelo Hill, from her previous relationship with Atlanta rapper Rocko Hill.
Fans wondered if their favorite celebrity couple’s marriage was on the rocks after noticing cryptic captions on their social media pages. Monica was also seen without her wedding ring in some of her latest photos. To add more cause for suspicion, she also uploaded a post expressing how grateful she was for her children and supporters, not mentioning her husband at all.
“Treasure people while they are present to feel your gratitude,” Monica wrote on March 2. “To my children you are the reason. The center of my joy , I love you! To my supporters you are all irreplaceable!!”

Shannon also shared an coded message on his Instagram account, ostensibly directed at his now-estranged wife.
“Loyalty and love are soulmates,” the NBA veteran said. “Can’t have one without the other huh…lol…it’s funny how we can look at the same thing and see it so different.”
Fans also speculated late last year that the couple’s marriage was on the rocks when they learned Shannon wasn’t going to be seen much on “T.I. & Tiny: Family & Friends Hustle,” which Monica co-stars on. But she quickly shut the hearsay down in October 2018 with an intimate photo of herself and Shannon together.
Neither Shannon or Monica have commented on the news of their divorce. However, social media is extremely upset to see the couple go their separate ways.
