Questlove Is Doing the ‘Impossible,’ Launches Vegetarian Cheesesteaks

The Impossible burger — the hamburger made from plants and created by the company Impossible Foods — has been quite the hit throughout the United States, and there’s a good chance their cheesesteaks will do well too.

Not only because the company is said to put out a quality product that tastes incredibly close to real meat, but to launch it they’ve partnered with Questlove, who’s also an investor in the company.

The Roots drummer and musical director for “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” will launch what he calls “Questlove’s Cheesesteak” on March 28. The sandwich will make its debut at all the home games of the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park and will also be sold at 40 venues across the U.S. owned by Live Nation.

Besides the mock-meat, it’ll also come with peppers, onions, a melted cheese blend and be served on a roll. And since the cheesesteak isn’t technically vegan due to the cheese, consumers can request vegan cheese upon ordering.

To some, Questlove partnering with Impossible Foods may seem out of left field, but it’s not, as he penned a book in 2016 titled “Something to Food About: Exploring Creativity with Innovative Chefs.” In it, he spoke to 10 chefs about their general process and overall creativity.

He also hosted a number of Food Salons, where influencers from various areas of entertainment and the culinary world congregate to eat and exchange ideas.

“To have the Phillies and Live Nation as our initial partners is great as it speaks to my love for my hometown of Philadelphia combined with my love of music,” said Questlove in a statement. “When I first tasted Impossible Meat in 2015, I became obsessed with the product and the company.”

On the Impossible Foods website, the company explains that its product is made from heme, a molecule found in plants and animals but the company uses heme from the roots of soy plants. The product is also made of wheat and potato proteins, as well as coconut oil.
