R. Kelly’s Girlfriends Joycelyn Savage and Azriel Clary Defend Singer in New Interview, Savage’s Parents Deny Accepting Money

Gayle King sat down with Joycelyn Savage and Azriel Clary, two women who’ve been called R. Kelly‘s live-in girlfriends, and one of them accused their parents of creating lies for money.

The discussion, which was shown in a teaser clip on Tuesday, is part of King’s emotional interview with Kelly on “CBS This Morning,” the first one he’s given since being hit with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse last month.

“You guys don’t know the truth. You guys are believing some f–cking facade that our parents are saying,” said Clary in tears with Savage next to her. “This is all f-cking lies for money. If you can’t see that you’re ignorant and you’re stupid.”

At one point during King’s discussion with Kelly, the singer said he was giving money to the Savage family, and they went to the media about their daughter being held hostage after the payments stopped coming.

But Gerald Griggs, the Savages’ family attorney, denied that Kelly ever gave them money and shot down his claim that her father Timothy Savage offered his daughter to him on stage during one of his concerts. Griggs also said her father never even met the singer.

“He also indicated that these parents came forward after the money stopped,” the attorney said about Kelly in a press conference on Wednesday. “I can state here unequivocally that at no point the Savages requested any money from Mr. Robert Sylvester Kelly, they have never received any money from Robert Sylvester Kelly, they don’t want any money from Robert Sylvester Kelly.”

Griggs then said that Kelly settled at least six known cases with nondisclosure agreements with big payouts in the past, and he may be confusing those settlements with the Savages.

“Why was he making those payouts if nothing nefarious was happening?” asked Griggs.

He also said the Savages are upset with King for interviewing Kelly without speaking to them as well and feels she provided a stage for him to look like a victim.

In a 2017 press conference, Timothy Savage said that he believes his daughter has been brainwashed by Kelly, because they haven’t spoken in quite some time. And shortly after that, during an interview, Joycelyn Savage denied that she was being held against her will.

The young woman also said she stopped speaking to her parents because they’ve been causing “problems in her life” by saying Kelly is keeping her hostage.
