Three young men from Florida have gone viral for their good deed of helping an elderly service station patron into her car.
Joc Koe Stoe, Marty and Freddy G, rappers from Williston, Florida, saw 89-year-old Rose Griest struggling to get into her vehicle at a local gas station.
The three men didn’t hesitate to help Griest’s 100-year-old spouse, David Griest, in getting her safely seated as her legs buckled underneath her.
“We seen an old couple having a hard time so we just assisted them,” Stoe told Fox 5 Feb. 1.
The couple of 20 years had been driving from Rose’s medical appointment in Perry to their home in Orlando when they stopped for a restroom break at a gas station, Yahoo Lifestyle reported.
Their good deed was caught on video by Bronson, Florida Officer Kenesha Carnegie of the Levy County Sheriff’s Office. She uploaded the footage to Facebook on Jan. 28.
“MLK The dream STLL lives on…” Carnegie captioned the video, which concluded with the husband thanking the men for their assistance after they successfully seated his wife on the passenger side of the minivan.
“I look over and three men were assisting the couple — it was a beautiful thing to see,” said Carnegie, who knew the three men, approached to supervise the situation and asked to film the encounter. “I know these men from the neighborhood, and I wanted them to have that moment to show who they really are.”
Who they really appear to be are helpers. Marty told Yahoo Lifestyle that the friends were in the service station grabbing chips and soda when they saw Rose and her husband, a former lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army, from the window.
“We didn’t even ask if they needed help — we felt comfortable giving them a hand right away,” he recalled. “I kept thinking, ‘She could have been my grandmother.’ 100 years old is a beautiful life.”
Stoe added Rose was fatigued from using restroom noting, “She was so tired, she could barely walk.”
Since Carnegie uploaded the one-minute clip to her social media page, it has been viewed 5.2 million times and raked up 93,000 shares. One person who caught the clip was the Griests’ grandson, 42-year-old Tommy Griest. He admitted he was surprised to see his grandparents, who do not use Facebook, come down his timeline.
“I was scrolling through and saw my grandmother’s purple outfit,” he said. “Praise these guys for helping them.”
He and his wife, Chastity, are thankful to the rappers and the officer for assisting his grandmother. He added that while his grandparents likely don’t know about the video, he thinks seeing it “would make them happy.”
Happiness is certainly the feeling Facebook users got by seeing the clip, as thousands have been commenting on what a noble thing the men did for the woman.
