Pastor John Gray recently received a social media tongue lashing for purchasing his wife Aventer Gray a $200,000 Lamborghini for their eighth wedding anniversary, and now he’s surrounded in even more controversy.
Not too long ago, the pastor along with his wife Aventer admitted to the congregation at Relentless Church in Greenville, S.C. that they were close to getting a divorce. Pastor Gray admitted that he let “some people get too close.”
“We had to keep smiling because even though we were struggling, even though I was failing as a husband, I was already in front of the people, and the people can’t really receive my brokenness, because where do leaders go when they bleed?” John told the congregation. “So I had to bleed alone.”
“And what’s strange is I traveled the whole world and the Holy Ghost showed up and people got saved and me and my wife just kept smiling and nobody knew we were getting ready to get a divorce,” he added. “Because as long as I kept producing, nobody cared what was happening at home. I started listening to the wrong voices and let some people get too close. She found out, and she set it off, just like a good wife should.”
Aventer then grabbed the microphone and explained why she chose to stay and how she had to pray away a “strange woman.”
“And then I prayed for them and him and then the devil loses,” she stated. “Because what’s not going to happen is you tell me that I’m going to lose my purpose because someone whispered to a ’16-year-old John’. The devil is a lie. I’m standing with my husband, and you can go on back to the pits of hell where you came from.”
“Was I upset? Yes. Was I heartbroken? Yes,” Aventer continued. “But you better learn how to get in there for the — what’s the vows? — better and worst so when the worst shows up you don’t run away.” She then explained how she defeated the devil. “I put scripture on that strange woman, I put scripture on that strange woman. She don’t want it with me and she don’t want it with ya’ll.”
So now rumors are swirling that he got too close to this “strange woman” and the expensive car was a make-up gift. At first, John responded to those who said that a pastor nor his wife should own something so pricey. He was also accused of using some of the church funds to buy the vehicle, which he denied. His wife also came to his defense.
“I don’t see anyone screaming about how basketball players drive what they do while you paying $$$ to see them play in arenas and on fields,” wrote Aventer. “We don’t live for people, we live for God. Back to my regularly scheduled grocery store trip. Happy Sunday.”
John said the money came from his book deals, as well as his OWN reality show and now folks are saying the luxury car was a makeup gift for the affair.
Reportedly, John was grateful that his wife kept silent about the affair and didn’t try to take down his ministry. While rumors have spread that the mistress is allegedly pregnant, there’s no confirmation if she is actually with child or not.
