Carmelo Anthony Gets Viciously Memed After Being Let Go By the Houston Rockets

Carmelo Anthony just got savagely memed after the Houston Rockets announced they’d let him go.

Anthony, who was traded to the Rockets after spending one unproductive season for the Oklahoma City Thunder, didn’t quite fit the Rocket’s uptempo, run and gun style of play. He also had the same problem with the Thunder.

In fact, many have said the entire NBA has changed to a faster, more team involved kind of play and Melo hasn’t adjusted.

Of course, the Rockets’ general manager Daryl Morey didn’t say those things when he spoke about Melo being let go, he just chalked it up to a basic mismatch.

“After much internal discussion, the Rockets will be parting ways with Carmelo Anthony and we are working toward a resolution,” said Morey.

“Carmelo had a tremendous approach during his time with the Rockets and accepted every role head coach Mike D’Antoni gave him. The fit we envisioned when Carmelo chose to sign with the Rockets has not materialized, therefore we thought it was best to move on as any other outcome would have been unfair to him.”

Now, as for the meme: Someone used a screenshot from that classic episode of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” to tease Melo. It’s the one where Ben Vereen played Will Smith’s absentee father, came to visit, then made an excuse and disappeared again.

Afterwards, Uncle Phil comes to comfort Will, and someone replaced his face with Melo’s.

“How come teams don’t want me, man?” the meme read.

Next, we’ll have to see if a team actually does want Melo, but it’ll take a month since players who are waived have to wait 30 days to join a new squad.
