Erykah Badu has a lot of people wondering whether she’s with child or not. They’re also asking if Ishmael Butler, aka Butterfly from the group Digable Planets, is the father.
The guessing-game started after the soul singer posted a video of herself in a parking lot moving around and modeling her outfit.
Then at one point, she lifted her shirt and rubbed her belly twice while the song “A Mess,” played by Shabazz Palaces, a Seattle based group that includes Ishmael as one of its members. Badu also captioned the video with the words “Ishhues wit trust,” a definite play on words with rapper’s name.
Ishmael also has a son with SWV’s Coko Clemons, and Badu has a son with Outkast’s Andre 3000, a daughter with The D.O.C. and a daughter with New Orleans MC Jay Electronica, which for some reason gave fuel to the pregnancy rumor.
“When two meteorites collide,” wrote one Instagram user. “Hopefully an album too.”
Erykah also received a slew of congratulations but others weren’t as eager to celebrate.
“Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see,” someone commented. “If Badu ain’t say she pregnant then she’s probably not. Stop it.”
Earlier this year, rumors flied that Badu and Ish were an item after they tagged each other in a few photos. In fact, on Sept. 7 the “On & On” singer shared a picture of Ishmael walking from behind and wrote “If he look back we go together.”
But some still weren’t convinced the social media flirtation meant that Ish and the singer were having a child together.
“I’m confused,” someone wrote. “They only really started kicking it in September when she professed her love on here. Like how do we know that she’s preggo?”
