Dave East and Styles P stopped by Funkmaster Flex’s show on Hot 97 last week to promote their joint project “Beloved.”
During their visit, both delivered a freestyle and while each spit impressive bars, there’s something that East said which is bound to get a lot of attention — mainly because of who he referenced.
“Nicki tried to holla but I’m just trying to make my album,” he rapped, presumably talking about “The Pinkprint” creator herself.
Whether East meant that Nicki Minaj was trying to contact him for a collaboration or romance is clearly unknown, but the fact he didn’t clarify the line has people talking about it.
One person says that East’s words are a response to Minaj’s song “Barbie Dreams,” since she mentioned him in the first verse.
Others were convinced the “Anaconda” rapper did try to approach East for some hanky panky and said it was wrong because she used to date Nas. Nas discovered East, brought him into the industry and mentored him.
“And I’m pretty sure that’s Nas’ mans,” one person wrote. “SMH.”
East is the second rapper this month to hint that he has something going on with Minaj. It’s something Quavo suggested on his cut “Huncho Dreams,” off his new album “Quavo Huncho.”
“Call up queen / The queen can’t flex on a young bull / Made her scream / Chanel, I bought for her, two of them / You can check IG,” rapped Quavo.
Minaj hasn’t responded to the Migos rapper nor East, but that may soon change. You can hear the freestyle below.
