Kelly Rowland Dispels ‘Stupid’ Rumors She’s Bleaching Her Skin: ‘I Am Still Chocolate’

Kelly Rowland has been the target of claims that she is bleaching her skin and the singer is now shutting down the speculation.

The star had just touched down in Los Angeles Wednesday, Oct. 24 and decided to address the false claims about her supposedly chemically altered skin tone.

“Now, I never answer questions like this because I think it’s so stupid … but I am not the one to bleach my skin nor do I want to bleach my skin nor do I have to bleach my skin,” Rowland says on an Instagram video. “I don’t even think that that … it’s not for me. So, don’t go saying stupid stuff like that.

“Have you ever thought it could be the lighting?” she continues. “Dude, I am still chocolate. Forever chocolate, proud to be chocolate. Shout out to all my chocolate girls.”

Fans swiftly responded to Rowland’s video.

“#TeamChocalate ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾STAY UNITED MY SISTER.”

“Amen! 🙌🏾 Not only is it unhealthy to bleach skin, beautiful healthy brown skin when taken care of glows like none other!”

“I’m cracking up at the finger twirling 😂yes let them have it kelly 👸🏾👑#melanin.”

“She always been Dark Chocolate! So something is fishy about this or maybe it’s the filters.”

“Lots of water and a healthy diet .. Her skin is flawless which makes her appear lighter.”

“I don’t understand what the big deal is with the skin color thing!! If ur light ur light if ur dark ur dark ect… C’mon black folks let’s stop with the colorism!!”

Rowland has long been an advocate for “chocolate” girls and has been outspoken about the importance of representing women of darker hues in the media.

“One of the things I looked for first was chocolate girls because I feel it’s so necessary for my niece … she has to see more chocolate women,” International Business Times reported Rowland said on a panel at SXSW in 2016 when discussing her music competition show, “Chasing Destiny.”
